                                    Picture

It is getting warm out and the masquitos are starting to come back. The insects are not only annoying to you, but they could potentially transmit Heartworm larvea to your dog, and Heartworms can KILL! That's why HOPE for Animals will waive your Heartworm test fee (normally $12) when you buy a six month supply of preventative at the clinic in June! Summit City ParrotHead Club Supports H.O.P.E. for Animals

                                    Picture
On January 28th, The Summit City ParrotHead Club presented H.O.P.E. for Animals with a $2,700 check.  The funds were raised at the annual ParrotHeads for Paws event.

The Summit City ParrotHead Club (www.scphclub.org)  is the only N.E. Indiana sanctioned chapter of the official social organization, Parrotheads in Paradise, Inc. (PHIP).   We are a not-for-profit group that organizes social activites and community service projects each year.  Several fundraising events are held for various charities in our community.  Club members simply embrace the writings and music of Jimmy Buffet and choose to leave this world just a little better than we found it while “Partying with a Purpose”. Our mission is to give back to our community, the environment and man (and animal) kind.

The great outdoors can bring in unwanted pest!

The warm has come and all of us want to get out of the house. Some of those new tricks you taught your pets during the cold winter months can be shown off to everyone at the doggie park. But warm weather and more outdoor exposure could mean a problem for your pets. That problems name is fleas. Here's some information about fleas and what you can do to prevent them:

                                    Fleas are harmful!

Fleas feed on blood and love to live on the bodies of your pets. The furry exterior of pets makes an ideal living place for the fleas without them being detected. Fleas not only suck blood from the pets which can ultimately lead to anemia but fleas can also transmit diseases that can be very serious or even fatal.

                                    Ways to check for fleas.

To make fleas more visible place a white paper towel under your pet while you comb them. If your pet has fleas you will  notice that black specks are falling off or getting stuck to the comb.

                                    High times for fleas.

Flea season usually starts in May and goes through to winter. The worst time of the year for fleas is September, October, and November.

                                    Keep fleas out!

The best way to manage fleas is to prevent them. Fleas spend most of their life on your pet not in your carpet. Please visit your local veternarian for flea preventative or come to HOPE for Animals for a supply of Frontline Plus.
